Dan Harmon has some good news about Rick and Morty Season 4

Wil Jones

The show’s co-creator says he is “optimistic” about it returning.

Rick and Morty already had a very devoted fanbase. But the show’s third season last year turned it from a cult favourite to a full-blown phenomenon. Somehow, the twisted take on Back To The Future has become arguably  most popular adult animated show since South Park.

Which means there is even more pressure on Season Four. We have had an April Fool’s episode and a music video in recent weeks, but Rick and Morty has never run on the most regular schedule. It’s worse that Game of Thrones at this point, in terms of ‘fan anticipation’ versus ‘the creators taking their sweet damn time in bringing out new content’.

But it’s not co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland holding up the show. Last month, both Harmon and Roiland confirmed that, despite the show’s growing fandom, it hadn’t actually been renewed for a new season yet.

But now there is good news for fans of the show. At the Tribeca Film Festival, the notoriously spiky Harman told Den of Geek that negotiations for season four seemed to be going well – and while he couldn’t say much, it definitely sounded positive.

Harman explained:

“I’m optimistic right now, at the moment.

“Negotiations are tough. It’s an unprecedented situation, and everybody’s being real cool and wants to make an agreement happen so that we can get started. That’s about all I can say.”

That sounds positive. But it’s still going to be a long wait. The last episode ended with Mr Poopybutthole addressing the camera and saying it’ll be a long wait until season four.
