Cartoon Network first launched in the UK 23 years ago today

This will make some of you feel old.

Cartoon Network, the cable station that has given us some of the finest animated (and some non-animated) entertainment, first launched on 17 September 1993 – that’s 23 years ago today. The original American version started in October 1992, but we had to wait another year to watch it.

At first the channel wasn’t 24 hours a day – at night it switched to TCM, showing classic movies throughout the evening – and it wasn’t until December 1996 that it started showing cartoons all through the day and night.

Which the channel started out it mostly showed classic cartoon from the MGM and Hanna-Barbera library, such as Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo. But they soon started making original shows, such as…
