Bryan Cranston says he’d play Walter White again ‘in a second’

Cranston says he would love to play Walter White on Better Call Saul

Earlier this week, Bryan Cranston announced that the cast of Malcolm in the Middle was reuniting for a charity table read of that show’s pilot – but it turns out that’s not the only former show he would like to go back to.

Cranston is currently doing press for his new Disney+ movie The One and Only Ivan (it’s about Bryan Cranston making friends with a gorilla – what’s not to love?), and while speaking to ColliderBreaking Bad came up, as you might expect.

In particular, he was asked if he would ever be involved with the Breaking Bad prequel show, Better Call Saul. His response:

“I have been asked to direct an episode every single season and it just didn’t work out because of a commitment to doing a play or doing a movie or something, so I wasn’t able to section out the times available. But I do love the show. I think it’s a fantastic show.”

And would he ever want to reprise Walter White on that show? That would be up to the show’s creators to decide.

“I would be in it if Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, who are co-executive producers on it, wanted me to be in it. I would do it in a second. But it hasn’t happened yet, I can tell you, and we’ll see. I don’t know.

“There’s one more season to go and we’ll see what happens!”

Better Caul Saul started in 2015, following Bob Odenkirk’s Jimmy McGill on his journey to becoming sleazy lawyer Saul Goodman, set before the events of Breaking Bad. Several Breaking Bad characters have appeared on the show, but not Walter White yet, at least.  However, Better Call Saul has one season left to air in 2021, so it could still happen.

Cranston did however play Walter White again in flashback sequences in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
