One of the best Western movies of the 21st century is on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It’s an absolute classic, even if it’s not for the squeamish.

Our TV movie pick for tonight (Saturday, 15 March) is Bone Tomahawk, the incredible 2015 Western thriller.

The film stars Kurt Russell, Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson and Richard Jenkins as men of the Old West who embark on a quest to rescue a group of their townsfolk who were abducted by a cannibalistic clan.

Also part of the movie’s great cast are David Arquette, Evan Jonigkeit, Fred Melamed, Lili Simmons, Michael Paré, Sean Young, Sid Haig and Zahn McClarnon.

The directorial debut of novelist S. Craig Zahler – who brings his rich eye for character and detail into film – Bone Tomahawk begins as an exciting and often funny men-on-a-mission Western, before making a sharp turn in the final stretch of the movie into absolute nerve-shredding horror.

Upon release, it received rave reviews from critics, as evident by its 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its latter section, however, is definitely not for the squeamish.

Bone Tomahawk is airing on TV tonight on Film4 at 11.10pm. It should also be available to stream on Channel 4’s website after it airs.
