Your new TV fix, with a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, arrives on Netflix this week

Conor Heneghan

Perfect viewing material for fans of Daredevil, Luke Cage and The Defenders.

Black Lightning, the latest DC comics offering, tells the story of Jefferson Pierce, a school principal who was once known as a superhero called Black Lightning, who fended off the threat of the 100, an organised crime gang in Metropolis.

Although long since retired from superhero duties, the increased threat of the 100, including to his own family, prompts a return to action of a man who can shoot electrical bolts of lightning, which fairly clearly makes him a man not to be messed with.

Starring Cress Williams – who some viewers may recognise from Friday Night Lights (he played Ornette Howard, the father of Vince Howard) – as Black Lightning, the show debuted on The CW Network earlier this month and has already received glowing reviews, including a 100% rating from 43 critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

It arrives on Netflix on Tuesday, 23 January, with new episodes arriving on Tuesday’s thereafter until the end of the first season.

One well worth adding to your watchlist.
