The BBC has responded to backlash over Gary Barlow’s Let it Shine

Let it Shine, a show created to find singers for a stage show about Take That, caused outrage this week.

When it was first launched, and right throughout the show, viewers believed that the winners would play Gary Barlow and his bandmates in the show when it took to the West End.

However, yesterday it was confirmed that the winners of the show wouldn’t even have so much as a line in the stage show, receiving chorus line roles instead.

People were very angry after hearing this and caused uproar, so much so that the BBC has felt compelled to release a statement.

According to The Mirror, the corporation has said:

‘With Let it Shine we always said we were casting for a band to appear in a musical based on the music of Take That and they had to be able to sing and dance – like a boyband.

‘The winners will sing and dance to 14 Take That numbers in Gary’s musical. We never said we were casting actors. But they will be front and centre of the musical.’
