Celebrity Traitors producers have a dedicated welfare team, BBC confirms

The BBC has broken its silence after reports that James Acaster became distressed during filming of The Celebrity Traitors, with the broadcaster outlining the welfare support available to contestants.

The 41-year-old comedian was eliminated during Thursday night's semi-final after admitting to his fellow players that he was a Traitor.

Reports claim the tense roundtable discussion became so difficult that producers had to pause filming and step in to support him.

It was also alleged that Acaster had undergone a welfare check before the roundtable began.

Asked about the circumstances, a BBC spokesperson said: “Our highest priority is always the safety and welfare of everyone taking part.

“Players are closely monitored and supported throughout by production which includes a dedicated and experienced welfare team.”

The statement comes amid questions about Acaster's experience during the penultimate episode. His representative has declined to comment.

The final of The Celebrity Traitors will air on BBC One at 8pm on Friday.
