The group of naked models in a publicised photoshoot in Dubai will be deported from the UAE

A group of models who participated in a naked photoshoot on the balcony of a high-rise apartment block in Dubai will avoid jail but will be subjected to deportation, Dubai authorities have confirmed.

Images of the Ukrainian models posing naked on a balcony went viral on Telegram and social media sites last week.

The legal code in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which is largely rooted in Islamic law, maintains that public indecency is an offence which is punishable with jail sentences of up to six months.

Foreigners have previously been jailed for less outrageous breaches of the UAE law on public behaviour, it has been revealed.

Dubai’s Attorney General, Essam Issa Al Humaidan, announced that, following an official investigation, the group of individuals who participated in the naked photoshoot would be deported from the UAE.

On Twitter, Dubai’s government media office confirmed: “The individuals involved will be deported from the United Arab Emirates. No further comment shall be made on the matter.”

The government’s media office said that the publicised naked photo shoot “contravened UAE law.”

The authorities in Dubai have not officially identified the 11 Ukrainian women who are thought to have been detained. A Russian man, who is believed to be the the organiser of the naked photoshoot, was also reportedly detained.
