Grandmother killed after losing arm during terrifying carjacking

After being carjacked by a group of teens in New Orleans, a 73-year-old woman died after “her arm was severed from her body.”

Grandmother Linda Frickey was leaving a building in New Orleans’ Mid-City neighbourhood on March 21 and upon trying to put something in her car, was jumped by a group of teenagers.

Eyewitnesses told WWL-TV via the New York Post that the young men “jumped in and kicked her out and she got caught in the wheel well.”

The witness added: “I heard screaming, like, ‘You’re about to die’ screaming!”

The woman was dragged for an entire block on North Scott Street. Nearby resident Todd Eckernc said the “door had closed on the seatbelt”, locking Frickey in place. “I got out of my vehicle screaming, ‘Please stop!’ Other neighbours were also screaming,” he told FOX News.

Leanne Mascar, another resident of the area, said: “She was screaming, and she was screaming to please let her go and then they slowed down and opened the door to kick her out.”

She continued: “As soon as I saw her, I screamed. I just started running for her — I thought if I could somehow, I don’t know what I could do, but I thought if I could dislodge her from this car … when I looked down her body was already there, and her arm was … It’s just not something you expect to see.

“She was laying there naked, and I thought the indignity she just suffered, it was already too much.”

Mascar’s husband Mark also witnessed the “horrific” attack and told the severely injured grandmother “to hang in there.”

Handout

He added: “Every time I heard a siren, I was hoping and praying it was the ambulance. I kept telling her to hang in there, breathing, her eyes were moving. I’ve never seen something so horrific.”

“Her arm was severed from her body,” police Superintendent Shaun Ferguson said. Officers were able to find the stolen car 13 blocks away, by which point the four assailants had escaped.

Superintendent Ferguson has urged people to come forward if they have information.
