Current rules are 'unmanageable'
Police officers are reluctant to enforce Covid rules by breaking up groups in outdoor spaces in the final month before lockdown begins to ease, it has been reported.
On an uncharacteristically sunny weekend, Brits flocked to parks and open outdoor spaces to enjoy the fresh air and get a healthy dose of vitamin D.
Police had been posted to break down rule breakers but the number of people out and about, as well as the fact that police may have to break rules themselves in order to stop others doing so, makes them 'unmanageable'.
Chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation Ken Marsh told
The Telegraph: "Police don't want to police this. We have had enough of this. It is not policeable. It is not manageable."
"We have to break Covid legislation every day of the week.
"What if I turn round and say to my 32,000 members: 'Adhere totally to Covid legislation.'
"That is not what we want, but if we have to do that to protect my colleagues I will do that.
"Ministers are just not listening. It is not right police are having to police huge crowds without the jab.
"Our vulnerability is massive. We don't have the right to strike, but we are considering sticking to the two-metre rule. We are taking legal advice on it."
March 8th will see Boris Johnson's
roadmap to freedom begin to take place, as schools reopen in full.
The end of March will then see meetings of six people outdoors allowed, as well as outdoor sport and leisure facilities.
