The new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is a bit of a breakthrough in modern day smartphones.
Priced at just £40 a month in the cheapest deal on the market, the Edge is the first phone to arrive that is packed with all the processing power of major smartphones in a package that is slimmer and lighter than ever before.
At just 5.8mm wide and 163 grams in weight the Edge is the benchmark for high end smartphones with reduced dimensions and it seems Apple have got a serious challenger when it comes to their own slimline iPhone.
Apple always launches its new iPhones in September and you can expect a new iPhone 17 this year. It could include a new version of the Pro Max at the very top of the range and that will probably be the most popular.
Apple is also rumoured to be launching a new iPhone 17 Air, which will be a direct competitor to the Edge. Initial rumours suggest it could be as thin as 5.5mm, which is slightly thinner than the Samsung rival. However, it will probably have a screen size the same as the Plus when it is launched.
What is the iPhone 17 Air?
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be a new slimmed down model to possibly replace the iPhone 17 Plus. Industry leaks suggest it may have an off-centre USB-C port, a slightly new look and feel compared to the iPhone 16, plus a single rear camera and a single speaker.
It means the Air will offer slightly less than iPhone 17 and there will be concerns of battery life as a smaller phone means less space for the battery.
How much will the iPhone 17 Air cost?
Apple has not revealed the price of the iPhone 17 Air and it will not do that until September. The launch is most likely to take place in the second week of September because that is when it has launched the iPhone 16 and iPhone 17.
Expect the cost to be approaching £900 for the new model. The current iPhone 16 is priced at around £899 for the standard and £1,199 for the Pro Max. However there are contract deals available on the iPhone 16 that bring the price down to around £20 a month. The best of those is with Sky Mobile, which has the iPhone 16 for £22 and the Pro Max for £35 a month here.
New Apple phone launches are notoriously difficult to predict when it comes to price but the iPhone 17 Air would likely fall somewhere between £800 and £1,000 when it does arrive.
