The Rock started his career as an American football player, long before he joined the WWE. He excelled in the college game and signed for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He suffered an injury setback early in his career, however, and was cut from the squad.
A year later he began wrestling and - well, the rest is history.
The Rock recently became a co-owner of the XFL with his ex-wife Dany Garcia. The pair led a consortium that purchased the XFL out of bankruptcy. It was originally set up by The Rock's former employer, WWE owner Vince McMahon, as a rival to the NFL, but struggled to attract viewers.Explore more on these topics:
