Wrexham slammed for reserving international tickets for fans

A limited number of tickets have been reserved for Wrexham fans jetting in across the globe

The Welsh side are preparing for their first League Two campaign in 15 years and are one of the favourites to secure promotion, largely thanks to the backing of Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

But ahead of their first game back against Walsall on August 5, the club announced that they would be allocating a number of tickets at the Racecourse Ground to fans that live abroad.

On the club's website, it says that their opening day fixture is "sold out for UK members" however "International Members Tickets are still available".

For each home game, 150 tickets for each home game will be reserved for UK members, with a further 75 going to international fans.

While Reynolds and McElhenney have been praised for the majority of the decision they've made since becoming owners, fans believe that they have misjudged this idea.

One fan wrote: "When a Wrexham FC Member living 9 miles away is unable to purchase a ticket but someone living 1000+ miles away may still purchase one then this should not be something you, as a club, should be pleased with."

A second person tweeted: "I’m sorry but this is very poor I am happy you are EFL and congrats on winning the League and earning millions in sponsorships and rebuilding the stadium but don’t let this get in the way of squeezing out those in your community that have supported you during your darkest days..."

"The ticketing system is an absolute shambles," said a third.

Among the other changes, fans have also called out the club for raising ticket prices and allocating 70 per cent of away tickets to season ticket holders.
