But of course, that was *never* going to happen, was it?
Like Aston Villa, Newcastle will also be playing Championship football next season following their relegation in midweek and the idea of them stopping a side that had only recently been embroiled in a title race seemed highly unlikely.
But Spurs *did* lose. And not only did they leave Tyneside empty-handed, they received an absolute pasting by Rafa Benitez's men, ending the day on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline.

Of course, it wasn't just that Spurs had shipped five goals to Newcastle that was a cause for disappointment for their supporters - it was also the fact that the result, coupled with the score at The Emirates, meant that they had failed to finish above Arsenal in the table for what would have been the first time in 21 years.
