West Ham bid for Italian defender to spare co-owner’s blushes

Everyone’s had that moment when they’ve said something embarrassing, then attempted to cover their tracks by pretending they meant it all along.

Normally it’s something minor, like eating that cheese sandwich your colleague bought you rather than admitting you’re horribly allergic to dairy and asked for the wrong thing by mistake.

However when you’re the co-owner of a Premier League football club, such attempts to save face can end up being a lot more expensive.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold made a bit of a balls-up when the club signed Pedro Obiang from Sampdoria, announcing the capture with a photo of Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna.

Some people might have brushed off the mistake and moved on, but not Gold.

Instead, he’s decided to bid for Ogbonna too, in an attempt to create a back-story to explain the earlier f**k-up. Presumably the two images were next to each other in the same folder on Gold’s computer.

Of course here at JOE Towers we had our fingers on the pulse, as always.

West Ham fans will hope that, if Ogbonna does end up signing for the club, Gold announces the deal with a photo of Lionel Messi.
