We’re praying that the rumours about Donald Cerrone’s UFC 205 opponent are true

This is almost too good to be true.

When Donald Cerrone hinted that he had an "epic" announcement on the way with regards to his next fight, the rumour mill went into overdrive. Was a rematch with Nate Diaz on the horizon? Would his wish for a title fight with Eddie Alvarez be granted? Would his climb up the welterweight ranks continue against Johny Hendricks? 'Cowboy' wasn't giving much away during his appearance on the most recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience but he remained hopeful that confirmation of his next bout was imminent.

"It's not 100% yet, but it's going to be fucking good," Cerrone told the UFC commentator. "Hopefully, today we get the double thumbs up."

That thumbs up has not arrived yet but, according to reports, Cerrone's promise about his announcement's magnitude is not an exaggeration. ESPN reporter Brett Okamoto claims that another welterweight tilt is in the works for Cerrone at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden and it will come against none other than the former champion, Robbie Lawler. https://twitter.com/bokamotoESPN/status/771390842997121024 Cerrone maintained his perfect record at 170lbs, since moving up after he came unstuck in his shot at the lightweight title, when he stopped welterweight stalwart Rick Story at UFC 202 a fortnight ago. It was his third finish in as many fights and earned him number seven slot in the most recent welterweight rankings. Lawler, meanwhile, is looking to rebound after losing the title when he was brutally knocked out by reigning champ Tyron Woodley in July. If true, the bout will make a monster first addition to one of the most eagerly anticipated fight cards of the year. We can but pray. Read more from SportsJOE:
