This run of Bayern Munich results against Werder Bremen is utterly ridiculous

Embarrassing

It’d take a brave man to bet against Bayern Munich retaining their Bundesliga title this season.

The Bavarian giants, who now have Carlo Ancelotti at the helm following Pep Guardiola’s move to Manchester City, made light work of their return to league football, thumping visitors Werder Bremen 6-0 in the Allianz Arena.

There was a stunning Xabi Alonso screamer to open the scoring, a Robert Lewandowski hat-trick and goals for Philipp Lahm and Frank Ribery. They couldn’t have asked for an easier start to the season.

These days, it’s not difficult to predict a comfortable Bayern victory, but as the tweet below shows, it’s definitely no surprise to see Bremen on the wrong end of a hiding at the hands of the German champions.

Incredibly, Bremen had leaked a ridiculous 22 goals in their four previous visits to the Allianz Arena.

Having shipped another six on Friday, perhaps they’ll think twice before getting on the bus to Munich next season.

Bayern are also the bookies’ favourites to lift win the Champions League this season. The five-time winners were drawn in the same group as Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven, Champions League newcomers FC Rostov and Atletico Madrid – the side that beat them at the semi-final stage in last year’s competition.
