Wayne Rooney to miss PSV clash – will Anthony Martial get his first start?

It will be tough for Louis van Gaal to deny new signing Anthony Martial a first start in Manchester United colours against PSV Eindhoven.

Captain Wayne Rooney will not return from injury in time to face the Dutch champions, giving United's manager a selection dilemma for the Champions League opener. With Marouane Fellaini underwhelming against Liverpool and Memphis Depay being withdrawn at half-time, it seems as though there will be a place for French forward Martial in the starting XI following his debut goal. Memphis is likely to be hungry to impress against his former club, so we could well see Martial deployed in a central role for the first time. Van Gaal will hope to have Rooney back in time for the next Premier League game against Southampton.
