Watch the embarrassing moment Tiger Woods tried to appear in the official US Ryder Cup team photo

Players only, Tiger

Simon Lloyd

When it comes to the Ryder Cup, Tiger Woods has been around long enough to know how things work in the week leading up to the competition.

That’s why, when the American team was called to assemble for an official photograph on Tuesday, Tiger took his place alongside the other members of David Love III’s team.

Unfortunately for the former world number one – who will be at Hazeltine as the USA’s vice-captain – he hadn’t realised that this was a players-only snap.

Having taken up a place next to Jimmy Walker, Woods was swiftly asked to step aside by a photographer, who gestured for him to move out of shot. Misunderstanding him, he moved to the opposite side of the lineup, and stood next to Ryan Moore.

To the amusement of the players, Woods was again ordered to stand to the side and reminded that vice-captains weren’t required for this particular shot.

We’re sure he’s had more embarrassing moments in his time…

Woods hasn’t played tournament golf since August 2015, after which he had surgery on his back.  Having recovered, he announced earlier this month that he would be making his return in mid October, with an appearance at the Turkish Airlines Open likely to follow in early November.
