Well, that wasn’t in the script…

Usain Bolt had to settle for a bronze medal in the final race of his individual career, finishing behind American duo Christian Coleman and winner Justin Gatlin in the 100m final at the London World Athletics Championships.

Gatlin, who has served two doping bans during his career, has been booed by the crowd in the London Stadium during his every appearance. When the stadium announcer confirmed his win, the reaction was inevitable.

Gatlin responded to the boos by putting a finger to his lips before shortly bowing down at the feet of Bolt, who had approached him to offer his congratulations.

Gatlin crossed the line in a time of 9.92. Coleman clocked a time of 9.94, while Bolt finished in 9.95.
