WATCH: Ederson error helps Shakhtar Donetsk defeat Manchester City

City finally lose a game

Since his arrival from Benfica in the summer, Ederson has looked completely at home in Manchester City’s goal.

The Brazilian, Pep Guardiola’s second attempt to replace Joe Hart, has already kept ten clean sheets and impressed many of the club’s supporters with his absolute confidence with the ball at his feet (perhaps best summed by one particularly memorable touch in the midweek win against Southampton last week).

He’s also demonstrated his ability to play the sweeper keeper role, too – often coming yards from his own penalty area to mop up any attempts to play a pass over his back line.

Naturally, this is something that’s going to go wrong once in a while, as was the case in the Ukraine on Wednesday night.

City lost their first game of the season to Shakhtar Donetsk, although their passage to the Champions League knockout stages had already been sealed before a ball was kicked.

With the Premier League leaders already a goal down, Ederson misjudged a ball over the top from Shakhtar, allowing Ismaily the relatively straightforward task of scoring the home side’s second of the night.
