Manchester United play Liverpool tonight at the Michigan Stadium in a pre-season friendly. Both teams fielded weakened sides with their World Cup stars still resting after a gruelling World Cup. But there was still plenty of talent on show. United lined up with almost the same side that beat AC Milan on penalties in Los Angeles, with a midfield trio of Ander Herrera, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira in midfield. The latter has stolen the spotlight in pre-season, with some complete performances in the middle of the park, staking a claim for a place in the United first team next season after spending the past two years out on loan at Granada and Valencia. Liverpool took the lead through a Sadio Mané penalty in the 28th minute but just three minutes later, United equalised with a stunning free kick from Pereira. The young Brazilian bent the ball up and over the wall into the top corner, leaving Liverpool's young goalkeeper Kamil Grabara in no man's land.
