Watch 14-year-old Mustafa Kapi make his debut for Galatasaray

One for the future

Simon Lloyd

Cast your minds back, JOE readers. What were you doing with your Saturday nights when you were 14 years of age?

Playing on a games console? Illegally drinking cheap cider on a local park? Wondering why you still weren’t able to sprout any facial hair?

Whatever you were up to, we’re reasonably confident you weren’t making your debut for Galatasaray in a friendly against Levski Sofia.

That, however, is precisely what young Mustafa Kapi – born in 2002 – did with his time this Saturday evening, replacing a fully-grown man for the last two minutes of the Turkish side’s friendly in Bulgaria.

He might not have touched the ball too many times during his brief cameo, but this truly is an an excellent excuse as to why he’s not finished his maths homework this weekend.

Here’s some footage of Kapi’s big couple of minutes, our favourite part being when he contemplates challenging a 6’7″ goalkeeper for a back post cross…

We’re not going to pretend we know an awful lot about how good this child is at football, but stuff like this suggests he’s one to keep an eye out for in the future.

Kapi’s memorable Saturday night comes a matter of days after 13-year-old Karamoko Dembele made worldwide headlines as he made an appearance for Celtic’s Under 21 side.

It’s enough to make any of us feel ancient.
