Aston Villa have strengthened their defence by bringing Aaron Wan-Bissaka in from West Ham, with the right-back spending the upcoming season at Villa Park on loan.
The agreement is believed to contain a conditional obligation for Villa to sign him permanently, although the clubs have not revealed exactly what conditions would trigger the permanent transfer.
The deal was confirmed on Friday, with BBC Sport reporting the move.
Wan-Bissaka had been left out of West Ham’s squad for their first two matches of the campaign as the transfer was being negotiated. He could now be involved for Unai Emery’s team when they face Brighton on Sunday.
The exact financial details have not been made public, although West Ham had previously put a £25m price tag on the 28-year-old when other clubs showed an interest.
Wan-Bissaka arrived at West Ham in 2024, signing a seven-year contract after leaving Manchester United. He went on to make 65 appearances for the Hammers over the next two seasons, including 25 during the campaign that ended with the club being relegated.
His time at Manchester United was considerably longer, with the defender making 190 appearances for the club. During that spell, he picked up the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. He also featured for DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup, starting all four of their matches as they reached the round of 32.
The move to Villa therefore represents a major change in circumstances for the 28-year-old. Villa finished fourth in the Premier League last season and lifted the Europa League, meaning Wan-Bissaka will now have Champions League football to look forward to after spending last season with a side that was relegated.
He could get his first opportunity for Emery’s team on Sunday, when Villa travel to Brighton for a 14:00 BST kick-off.
