Food safety alert issued for four wraps

A number of ready-to-eat wraps have been taken off sale in the UK after concerns were raised that they may contain Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, also known as STEC.

The Mirror reported that the recall covers four products made by Summit Foods: Snacksters Chicken Fajita Wrap, Snacksters Hoi Sin Wrap, East Street Deli Sweet Chilli Chicken Wrap and Target a Snack Chicken Fajita Wrap. The warning applies to products with use-by dates up to and including 5 September 2026.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has told anyone who has one of the affected wraps not to eat it and to throw it away.

STEC infections can result in severe diarrhoea and stomach pain, while more serious cases can develop into haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). The condition can cause kidney failure and, in some cases, can be fatal.

Anyone who becomes unwell is advised to avoid work, school or nursery until they have gone at least 48 hours without symptoms, in order to reduce the chances of spreading the infection to someone else.

Summit Foods said its own checks flagged the issue. "As part of our routine testing, we have identified a potential food safety issue affecting a small number of our wrap products," it said, adding that it was "working closely with the authorities and our customers to recall the affected products" and that "consumer safety remains our highest priority".

Only the four named products are affected. Anyone with one of the chicken wraps at home should bin it rather than eat it, and there is more food and drink news from JOE here.
