USA and Mexico offered the perfect response to Donald Trump with their team photo last night

It's just as well soccer isn't the most beloved sport among Americans, because a defeat to their main rivals after a week when Donald Trump was elected President might just be too much for some.

At the end of a tumultuous week for the United States, the Mexican national team travelled to Ohio for a World Cup qualifier against their closest neighbours, and enacted more pain on America. Mexico won 2-1 thanks to a late, late goal from their captain Rafael Marquez, and the victory will be all the sweeter in light of the inflammatory comments America's new President made about the country while campaigning for office. Trump called Mexicans "rapists" and "criminals", and infamously swore to build a wall along the border between the two countries, and make Mexico pay for it, should he end up in the White House.

"I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words."

In response to the Trump's inflammatory comments about Mexico, which could cause a serious rift to develop between the two nations, the US team and their Mexican opponents showed a sign of unity and fraternity ahead of the crunch game in Ohio.
