This just in: Brazil legend Pele is a Harry Kane fan.

Kane has just his earned his first call-up to the England squad and Pele has been quick to jump on the Tottenham striker’s bandwagon.

The 21-year-old has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season – including both goals in the 2-1 win over North London rivals Arsenal – and Pele believes that Roy Hodgson is on to a hell of a good thing ahead of games against Lithuania and Italy.

“I think he is an excellent player – he could be a good one for the English team,” Pele told Press Association Sport.

Kane’s work around the box has drawn particular praise from the man widely held to be the best that has ever played the game.

“What is important is the team work, I think. You cannot win games with individual players. Always it was like that,” added the three-times World Cup winner.

“When you have excellent players, sometimes the team doesn’t work, you need a good team ethic.

“I am going to give one example – in the Brazil team at the World Cup in England, we had at that time the best players.

“We played the World Cup here but we lost, then in 1970 in Mexico we had an excellent team.

“Our individual players were not the best, but we won the World Cup with the team, not the individual players.”
