Tyrone Mings pulls out of TalkSport interview over Raheem Sterling coverage

‘I’m fed up of broadcasting channels who have a huge voice allowing this sort of sh*t to be said’

Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings has announced he’s pulled out of an interview with TalkSport in protest at some of its coverage of the alleged racist abuse of Raheem Sterling.

Sterling had responded to the alleged comment, made by a fan during Manchester City’s weekend game at Chelsea, by later taking aim at the Daily Mail in an Instagram post. Criticising the newspaper’s coverage of how he and other young black footballers spend their money, Sterling’s post suggested this “helps fuel” the racism seen in the stands.

Following this, former Reading striker Dave Kitson appeared on TalkSport, telling the station that the England international had incited “jealousy” by showing off about his luxury lifestyle on his social media. Although Kitson added there was “no excuse whatsoever” for racist abuse, Mings responded by saying he will no longer be appearing on the station as had been planned.

Quote tweeting footage of Kitson’s comments, Mings  said: ‘I’m meant to be doing an interview with TalkSport tomorrow which won’t be happening.

‘I’m fed up of broadcasting channels who have a huge voice allowing this sort of sh*t to be said.

‘Like someone or dislike them, there is no ‘but’ or grey area when it comes to racism.’

In a further tweet, Mings said: ‘I will absolutely voice my opinion and play my part for those who do not have as much of a reach.

‘It has to be in the right way and on the right platforms though.

‘Silence is deadly for stations and outlets who rely on viewers and listeners.’
