Van Gaal searches for van Persie replacement
Manchester United are looking to replace Robin van Persie with yet another big-name signing.
After already securing the signature of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Louis van Gaal’s mind is still in Munich as he tries to coax Polish striker Robert Lewandowski away from the Allianz Arena, according to The Telegraph.
This could push van Gaal’s spending at Man United over the £300m mark in a little over a year since he replaced David Moyes.
Manchester City to step up spending
Raheem Sterling’s arrival at Manchester City has marked the beginning of a busy transfer season at the Etihad.
The Telegraph are reporting that Manuel Pellegrini will step up his pursuit of Wolfsburg midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.
Wolfsburg will be looking to make a significant profit on the £16m they spent on the Belgian 18 months ago, but City have already shown their willingness to splash the cash to get what they want.
Townsend a transfer target for Tyne-Wear teams
Tottenham Hotspur are are considering offers for England international Andros Townsend.
The Daily Star report that the winger is being pursued by a number of Premier League clubs, with Newcastle thought to be leading the race ahead of local rivals Sunderland and Aston Villa.
Daniel Levy has told all bidders that the 23-year-old will cost a minimum of £15m, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to raise funds to rebuild his squad.
