Transfer Gossip: Man City looking at Wilshere if Pogba bid fails

City considering Pog alternative

As the Paul Pogba transfer saga rumbles on, it seems as though Manchester City are preparing to set their sights closer to home.

According to the Daily Star, the two-time Premier League champions are eyeing up a £40m move for England midfielder Jack Wilshere if their pursuit of the Juventus man fails.

Wilshere, who at 23 is just a year older than Pogba, recently flexed his goalscoring muscles in England’s win over Slovenia.

Where there’s a Will there’s a way

The Gunners could have an instant replacement lined up for Wilshere if the midfielder does leave the Emirates, with Portugal’s William Carvalho still high on their shopping list.

The Sun report that Sporting Lisbon are holding out for more than the £28.5m believed to have been offered by the Gunners.

It is believed that a further £8.5m in add-ons would be enough to meet the 23-year-old’s release clause.

Toby or not Toby?

Atletico Madrid are prepared to offer defender Toby Alderweireld to Chelsea in a deal which would see Filipe Luis return to the Spanish capital.

Brazil international Luis made just 13 league appearances following his big-money move to England, and the Daily Telegraph report that Diego Simeone is ready to offer the left-back an escape route.

Alderweireld, who played for Belgium at the World Cup, impressed last season while on loan to Southampton, but Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is thought to be undecided on a potential deal.
