Liverpool plot cheeky Nando bid

What is it about Liverpool and Spanish strikers called Fernando? The Merseyside club have cooled their interest in  Christian Benteke and are now looking at Juventus man Fernando Llorente.

The Sunday Telegraph report that Sevilla’s Carlos Bacca is also an option for Brendan Rodgers’ side, as they look to find a goalscorer in a similar vein to former Anfield favourites Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres.

23-cap striker Llorente, 30, would likely be allowed to leave Turin as Juventus look to have won the race for Manchester United target Mario Mandzukic.

City and Chelsea going for A.Song

Barcelona midfielder Alex Song, who spent last season on loan with West Ham United, has emerged as a target for Manchester City and Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports, the former Arsenal midfielder’s status as a home-grown player under Premier League rules is a key factor in the two sides’ pursuit of the Cameroonian.

Song, who has two years left on his Barcelona contract, is unlikely to cost much more than £5m.

United not saving the Bast until last

Manchester United’s move for Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger will be completed sooner rather than later, the Sunday People report.

The 30-year-old, who has played 500 career games for Bayern Munich, would be available for a cut-price £7.5m as he only has one year left on his contract.

Schweinsteiger is believed to be keen to link up again with Louis van Gaal, under whom he reached the 2010 Champions League final with Bayern.
