Tottenham reach verbal agreement with Ange Postecoglou

A deal is expected to be completed this week

The Guardian have reported that Spurs have agreed a two-year deal with Postecoglou and a deal is expected to be announced once compensation has been agreed with Celtic, where he is currently on a 12 month rolling contract.

Postecoglou joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 from Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos and completed a league and cup double in his first season in charge. The Australian also had spells in charge of Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory and the Australian national team, who he led to the 2014 World Cup.

Spurs moved for the 57-year-old quickly and have been impressed with his performances in Scotland, where he has won the league title in both seasons as well as completing a domestic treble this year after they beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3-1 in the Scottish Cup final on Sunday.

Ryan Mason has been in charge of the club on a temporary basis after Antonio Conte and Crisitian Stellini were relieved of their duties in a disappointing season that saw them finish in eighth, missing out on European football entirely.

Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann had been on the shortlist however the latter now appears to be the frontrunner to become the new Paris Saint-Germain boss, with Christian Galtier reportedly set to be sacked.

Arne Slot had been Spurs' initial first choice but after holding talks with the north London club, turned down their advances and opted to sign a new deal with Eredivisie champions Feyenoord.
