Thomas Vermaelen became the most unlikely Barcelona hero with this (Video)

Nobody saw it coming...

It’s been a long time coming for Thomas Vermaelen at Barcelona.

The defender had only started two games for the La Liga champions since his move from Arsenal a year ago.

But it must have been third time lucky for him in the game against Malaga.

The game was 0-0 and the Malaga ‘keeper was having an absolute worldie, keeping the deadly triumvirate of Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi the returning Neymar at bay.

But he couldn’t stop Vermaelen. It had looked like the game was going to finish a goalless draw, but with 17 minutes left on the clock the former Gunner mopped up a blocked cross from Suarez to lash home unmarked.

The unlikeliest of men managed to keep Barca’s 100% start to the season.
