This MLS game had a higher attendance than any match in the Premier League

Next time someone tells you fans are never going to warm to MLS, show them this.

Seattle Sounders’ game against the Portland Timbers drew a crowd of more than 64,000 – some 14,000 more than the Premier League’s best-attended fixture at St James’ Park.

If that many will turn out to watch the likes of Tyrone Mears and Liam Ridgewell, the league’s doing just fine.
