Paris Saint-Germain visit Anfield on Tuesday night for the most eagerly anticipated fixture of the Champions League group stage.

Ahead of the Liverpool match, PSG captain Thiago Silva appeared to take aim at his former coach Unai Emery, now manager of Arsenal, when he spoke about the changes Thomas Tuchel has brought to the club.

“Thomas Tuchel shows us a lot of desire and especially, with him, you know exactly what you need to do when you get on the pitch,” Silva said.

A cynic might see this praise for Tuchel as criticism of Emery, who failed to deliver what was expected of him at the Paris club. Emery won only a single league title at PSG, conceding the other to Monaco during his two year spell at the Parc des Princes.

Emery was let go by PSG at the end of last season after failing to progress past the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Emery was in charge at PSG when Barcelona pulled off the most spectacular comeback against the Parisiens, winning a two-legged tie 6-5 after losing the first leg 4-0.

PSG’s owners and fans will be hoping that Tuchel’s superior tactical nouse will lead them further in Europe this season, and going by Thiago Silva’s comments, the players seem to be more confident of achieving that goal under the guidance of their new coach.
