Olise scored a last minute equaliser against Man United

Michael Olise left fans and pundits alike scratching their heads after his sensational stoppage time equaliser against Manchester United.

In the dying moments of the game, Olise stepped up to take a free kick, which left David De Gea with no chance as he watched it fly into the back of the net at Selhurst Park.

Despite rescuing a point for Patrick Vieira’s side Olise seemed less than impressed with his effort – performing a very subdued celebration.

One supporter wrote: “Why isnt Olise celebrating? Just scored a belting equaliser in the 90th minute against Man Utd and you stand there and turn around wtf.”

Another said: “Michael Olise not celebrating a goal like that gives me anxiety.”

A third tweeted: “Olise not celebrating the free kick has pissed me off more than him celebrating would’ve what’s this guys problem.”

The reason behind the winger’s decision not to celebrate though has now been revealed.

Olise’s former Reading teammate, Tom McIntyre, one explained to The Athletic why his celebrations are so tame.

“We’d be like, ‘Mike, you’ve just scored an important goal and you’re just walking back?’. What’s he doing? Then he’d play two-touch with the (then)manager (Paunovic) in the gym, he’d win a point in that, and he’d be shouting and celebrating, but on a Saturday, he’d score a goal in front of the home end and just stand there.

“We never really worked out why. He could never give us an answer but he’s just different; a special player.”

United dropping points means that they now move to within a point of second-placed Manchester City ahead of their trip to top of the league Arsenal on Sunday, where they will be without Casemiro, who is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season on Wednesday.
