The Premier League club worst affected by refereeing errors so far this season has been confirmed

Some teams have suffered more mistakes than others

By now, all 20 clubs will have had at least one decision or incident they feel has gone against them.

Already this season, the league's ref referee organisation "Pro Ref" have apologised to one of the Premier League's clubs, after VAR made a grave error that allowed an Erling Haaland goal to stand during the Manchester derby.

But how many other clubs have fallen victim to errors from officials, that could have changed the early shape of their season?

Thankfully throughout this season, for the first time ever, the Premier League have begun to provide weekly insights into the refereeing calls that its officials got wrong.

After each matchweek, a body called the Key Match Incident Panel (KMI) meet up to review the biggest calls made the week before, where they vote on errors made.

The KMI panel is made up of former players, coaches, and representatives from the Premier League and Pro Ref.

Over the course of the season, Arsenal are the team that have suffered the most errors from referees.

As detailed in the Premier League’s KMI review reports, the champions missed out on a penalty they should have been awarded in their 1-0 win over Aston Villa.

Ezri Konsa was then wrongly judged to have conceded a penalty against Sunderland in Matchweek 4.

Returning to the Aston Villa clash, the Gunners should also have seen their opponents reduced to 10 men following the penalty incident.

All three of which are confirmed errors.

Statements on each incident, as published by the Premier League, are available below:

On the Aston Villa penalty: "The panel felt that a penalty should have been awarded on-field for Maatsen's reckless challenge on Guimaraes. Clear contact was made on the attacker's standing leg and Maatsen made nocontact with the ball. They also felt that VAR should have intervened as the non-penalty award was a clear and obvious error.

On the red card: "The panel felt that the challenge was reckless and therefore a second caution should have been awarded."

On the Konsa penalty vs Sunderland: "The panel unanimously felt that the referee's call of a penalty for a holding offence was incorrect.

"Although it was a very untidy challenge in which Konsa initially had arms around Ballard, Ballard
engages in a holding action which pulls Konsa onto him so they both fall to the floor.

"The non-VAR intervention was supported, 3:2, with the majority considering that the on-field
decision was not a clear and obvious error, given the combined actions from both players."

Arsenal have been particularly unlucky so far this season, since, as it stands, no other club has suffered from more than one of these "confirmed errors."

Although it is safe to say Aston Villa have been the luckiest side so far, with three confirmed errors going in their favour.

Alongside the two aforementioned incidents in the Arsenal game, the Villains also benefited from another error in their opening-day defeat to Brighton, involving a John McGinn challenge on Ibrahim Osman.

The panel confirmed that the majority felt a penalty should have been awarded on the field, stating: “McGinn steps into challenge Osman and makes contact without playing the ball. Whilst the majority of the panel preferred the outcome to be a penalty, with the high threshold for VAR intervention, the majority, 3:2, felt that it was not a clear and obvious error, 78th minute.”
