John Terry played a key role in getting Tammy Abraham to sign for Aston Villa

Having sealed the move, Abraham has now revealed that John Terry played a key role in persuading him to make the move to Villa Park. Former Chelsea captain Terry spent last season with Villa, who narrowly missed out on a return to the Premier League after losing the Championship play-off final to Fulham in May. The 37-year-old had looked to set to sign on for an extra year with the club had promotion been sealed. Speaking after his unveiling as a Villa player, Abraham explained that the former England defender had called him to advise him to spend the season with Steve Bruce's side. "He [Terry] was one of the first people to call me and said it was a great club and he enjoyed every minute here," the 20-year-old is quoted as saying in the Express and Star. "He said I would like it, like the manager, like the players and I believed him so I’m here." Abraham spent last season on loan with Swansea City but was unable to prevent them being relegated from the Premier League. Prior to that, he managed 23 goals in the Championship during another temporary spell at Bristol City in 2016/17. As well as Terry, Abraham also revealed that Villa midfielder Jack Grealish also played a part in persuading him to make the move to Birmingham "I’ve had players like Jack Grealish messaging me every day," said Abraham. "It’s nice to have a person you know from before to tell you to come to a club."
