Sunderland announce new signing with some dodgy hashtagging

Tom Victor

We’re starting to think Sunderland were subliminally influenced by that ice cream van stuck on the M6.

Fabio Borini has returned to Wearside on a permanent deal from Liverpool, and the Dick Advocaat-managed club have not covered themselves with glory when it comes to hashtagging.

Sitting halfway between simplicity and laboured pun, it somehow fails to work on multiple levels.

We suppose the shirt looks a bit like a Fab ice lolly on its side, and the trim looks like sprinkles?

No? Well don’t say we didn’t try.

Perhaps the Black Cats should have spoken to one of their own strikers for hashtag advice.

Fletcher’s hashtagging is up there with the all-time greats like former Newcastle striker Nile Ranger – perhaps it’s a North East thing.

Actually, come to think of it, it could just be the domain of strikers.
