USA Soccer Guy: Stevie Gee gets lost in Galaxy of stars

Soccer Guy

After all the hype, Stevie Gee lasted just one quarter of his LA Galaxy debut – making a half-time-out visit to the sub shack.

In the most humongous moment of his soccering career, Gee entered the StubHub Center field to whoops and hollers of support from the bleachers. Clearly overawed by his new surroundings, this soccer game was a pretty big step up.

Playing against some Mexican franchise, Gee tried real hard to stain the score sheets, but it was clear the pressure of trying to fill the cleats of greats like Landon Donovan and fellow Brit Robbie Keane was too much to take.

Gee found himself with the real estate to get into the danger box zone half way through the quarter. His kick sucked, and the Mexican goaltender made an easy hand denial. Right before that, he tried a no bouncer that was so far wide it made the crowd laugh.

Despite carrying their new guy’s ass, LA Galaxy got the the three points from their International Champions Cup match. After going behind, Robbie Keane made an equalization right before half-time-out that shows his new team buddy just how much a soccer player can improve after making the move from England. Late on, Alan Gordon sealed the deal .

If selected, the real test of Stevie Gee’s soccering ability will come in the coming week. Real Salt Lake host the Galaxy on Tuesday in the USA Open Soccer Cup before one of the most eagerly anticipized soccer games in world soccer: Friday’s game against San Jose Earthquakes in MLS.

His American Dream may not have got off to a real good start but the step up from the English EPL was always gonna be a challenge. With his debut outta the way, Gee will now dust himself down and continue his pursuit of soccering happiness.
