It’s just an end of season friendly, but much has been made of Michael Carrick’s testimonial.
The game will see a Michael Carrick All-Star XI take on a Manchester United side made up of players from their 2008 European Cup-winning squad.
Because of this, there’s been plenty of excitement about the potential return (for one night only) of Cristiano Ronaldo and a fair amount of concern that Carlos Tevez, the man who left United for Manchester City in 2009, may once again be pulling on a red shirt.
Perhaps ending any possibilities of the Argentine being part of the occasion is the latest update on the game. A tweet from the club has confirmed that the ’08 team will be managed on the night by Sir Alex Ferguson…

This will mark a return to the Old Trafford dugouts for the former United boss, who guided the club to 13 of their title triumphs and two of their three European Cup wins.

As revealed by Jose Mourinho recently, Ferguson has kept his distance from the club’s players since retiring in 2013. Until recently, he’s also opted to make his own way to away fixtures, not travelling with a delegation from the club.
Harry Redknapp, manager of West Ham, where Carrick started his professional career, will manage the All-Star team on the night.
