Sir Alex Ferguson sent Hughie Fury a letter ahead of upcoming world title fight

Went down a storm

What better way to motivate a Manchester United fan than with a personal message from the club’s greatest ever manager.

Hughie Fury is currently in the midst of his most important fight camp to date as he prepares for his shot at the WBO heavyweight title against champion Joseph Parker, which takes place in Parker’s native New Zealand on May 6.

Fury will be competing for one of the belts that his cousin, Tyson Fury, vacated late last year and the undefeated records of both men are also on the line.

But Fury has had a fire lit underneath him thanks to some motivational words from one of his sporting heroes as Sir Alex Ferguson penned a letter to the 22-year-old urging him to concentrate on his strategy, not the spectacle.

“That was the greatest moment ever, to receive that letter through the post,” Fury said on BBC 5 Live.

“For such a great and such an idol of a man, to get a letter from him, it was just unbelievable.

“He wished me all the best and told me not to let the occasion get above me.

“He told me how he would talk to his players before a match. He’d tell them ‘Don’t let the occasion become you. You focus on your game, focus on what you need to do.’

“It was very inspiring what he had to say.”
