The administrators currently running EFL side Sheffield Wednesday have received an offer from arch rivals Sheffield United to merge the two clubs, according to Sky Sports News.

Wednesday have been up for sale since October when former owner Dejphon Chansiri handed over control of the club to administrators.
Per Sky Sports, an email was received by Wednesday which is "claimed to come from" COH Sports, the American owners of the Blades.
The email is said to have included an enquiry into an asking price for the purchase of the historic club.
Per reports, it could still be possible for the email to have been a false 'spoof.'
This is down to the fact that Sheffield United's American owners are yet to make an official comment regarding the proposal, despite reportedly being approached for a response.
Any potential merger is likely to be blocked by the EFL, and Sky Sports report, that neither the EFL nor the new Football Regulator would allow it to happen.
Sheffield Wednesday and United are two of the oldest clubs in football history, with a rivalry that dates back more than 130 years, as a result any potential merger is expected to deeply anger both sets of supporters.
COH Sports have been in control at Sheffield United since December 2024.
On arrival in Sheffield they talked up ambitions of taking the Blades back into the Premier League.
At present, Sheffield United are in the Championship relegation places making a push for promotion a far away prospect in at least the short-term.
Sheffield United and Wednesday met most recently in the "Steel City" derby on Sunday, where the Blades came out 3-0 winners.
While United are still facing a relegation battle of their own, rivals Wednesday are heavy favourites to be demoted to League One at the end of the season. This is due to a 12-point deduction they incurred as a result of former owner Chansiri placing the club into administration.
