Scottish side Clyde FC to pay tribute to tragic player Chris Mitchell

Scottish football was rocked by the death of young player Chris Mitchell this weekend.

Chris, a former midfielder for Clyde FC, passed away suddenly on Friday. He was aged just 27. Mitchell had previously played for Scottish clubs Falkirk, Ayr United, Bradford and Queen of the South before moving to Clyde last summer. He made 18 appearances for the Scottish League Two side Clyde FC before retiring from the game to take up a full-time job. Clyde, who clinched a play-off final spot with a win at Elgin yesterday, confirmed the sad news in a statement over the weekend, before announcing that a minute's silence will be held before Tuesday's match against Queen's Park in his name Clyde striker Sean Higgins led the tributes on social media as he revealed his teammates received the news shortly after clinching a League Two play-off spot following a win over Elgin on Saturday. https://twitter.com/seanhiggins1984/status/729300950754725890 A statement released by Clyde FC this weekend said:

"Everyone connected with Clyde FC was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Chris Mitchell, at the age of just 27, this weekend. Chris featured for The Bully Wee during the first half of the 2015-16 season, after joining the club from Queen of the South last summer. He made a significant contribution to the campaign, featuring in 18 matches and recording six assists. "In January, it was announced that Chris was leaving the club, due to the travel commitments required of a new full-time job. Commenting on the news at that time, Barry Ferguson praised Chris for his performances and his overall professionalism. Barry Ferguson, his staff and the players received the news when they were travelling back from Elgin as a group, and are today still coming to terms with the loss. "The thoughts of everyone connected with Clyde FC are with Chris' family and friends at this extremely difficult time. A minute’s silence will be observed before the League 1 play-off match against Queen's Park at Broadwood on Tuesday night in memory of Chris."
