Scotland fans are not surprised by their football team’s shock defeat

Tom Victor

It was all going a little too well for Scotland.

On the cusp of qualifying for Euro 2016, they just needed to win against Georgia – ranked 147th in the world, below Guam and Aruba – to keep things ticking along.

You can probably guess what happened next – Valeri Kazaishvili scored for the hosts in the first half, and Gordon Strachan’s men couldn’t find a way back, falling to a 1-0 defeat.

It was a huge shock to everyone…except Scotland’s supporters.

The country’s footballers have failed to reach a major tournament since 1998, and Georgia dented their chances just eight years ago with a 2-0 win that cost them a place at Euro 2008.

Scottish fans might have been cautiously optimistic beforehand, but that soon changed during the game.

And continued at full-time.

They might have expected it to be bad, but this bad?
