He’s heading back to Spain

Santi Cazorla’s Arsenal career was a classic case of incredible talent spoilt by injury. Between 2012 and 2016, he was an ever present source of creativity and trickery in Arsenal’s midfield, but an achilles injury that refused to heal quickly kept him out of action for much longer than first feared.

Arsenal fans adore Cazorla, but will sadly never get to see him grace the turf at the Emirates again. As age catches up with him, the diminutive Spaniard has decided to rejoin his old club, Villarreal, as he tries to put together one final chapter in his playing career.

Villarreal CF today announced that Cazorla would join the club for this summer’s pre-season which commences on 9th July, hoping to fully recover from the achilles operation he underwent during last November.

Cazorla made his debut for the Yellow Submarine back in 2003, and will hope to play again for the first team in the coming season. He then moved on to Recreativo Huelva in 2006 for one year before returning to Villarreal for another four year spell.

This will be his fourth spell at the club, who finished 5th in La Liga last season.
