‘Klopp was a little bit sad’

Sadio Mane has revealed that his decision to leave Liverpool left Jurgen Klopp feeling “a little bit sad.”

Mane recently completed a move to Bayern Munich after six seasons on Merseyside, where he grew to become one of the Reds’ most important assets.

‘He wanted me to stay but understood my situation’

Speaking at his official unveiling, the Senegal international said that while Klopp understood his decision to move onto pastures new, his former boss was still upset that Mane opted to leave Anfield.

He said: “Klopp was a little bit sad but wished me all the best. I’ll always be grateful to him.

“I spent six wonderful years in Liverpool with very nice people and great fans. They were not happy that I left but that’s a part of life, I needed a new challenge.

“Klopp is a very good guy, he wanted me to stay but understood my situation.

“We achieved everything at Liverpool. I’ve seen how good Bayern are on TV before. I’ve watched them in the Champions League. No doubt they’re one of the best clubs in the world. I believe 100 per cent that we can achieve big things.”

A conversation with the Bayern boss convinced Mane to join

Mane went on to explain that a meeting with Bayern boss, Julien Nagelsmann, was enough to convince him a move to the Bundesliga champions was right for him.

“I met him, that was really important for me. I was fascinated by the tactical presentations, straight away I could I see myself in that team and decided (to join them) straight away,” he said.

Mane becomes Bayern’s third signing of the summer after they confirmed the arrivals of Ajax duo, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui, last week.
