Romelu Lukaku will move to Chelsea if fee is agreed with Inter Milan

Just nice to have a transfer story not about Manchester City

With a new Premier League season just around the corner, transfer news is coming thick and fast. While 99.9999% of it seems to be about Manchester City, Jack Grealish and Harry Kane, it also appears Chelsea aren’t giving up hope of splurging a very large amount of money on a new striker in time for the big kick-off.

Talk of the European champions tabling a huge offer for Erling Haaland has now cooled, with their attention now turning to prising Romelu Lukaku away from Inter Milan.

At a glance it seems a tricky one: Inter aren’t likely to be in any rush to part with the man who’s just fired them to their first league title in over a decade and Lukaku himself has insisted he’s settled in Milan after moving there from Manchester United two years ago.

Chelsea, though, appear undeterred in their pursuit of their former player – something which the Telegraph claims has impressed Lukaku.

The Belgian is said to be excited by the direction Chelsea have taken under Thomas Tuchel and – though reluctant to hand in a transfer request in Milan – would be open to returning to Stamford Bridge.

Inter are said to value Lukaku at around £100m and Chelsea would be willing to pay him £250,000 in wages should he make the move.

Manchester City had also enquired about him earlier in the year before settling on Kane as their number one priority to fill the boots of Sergio Aguero.

Whereas Lukaku wasn’t keen on the idea of a return to Manchester, he is believed to be giving thought to where in London he might live should a transfer back to Chelsea be finalised.
