Listen to the man, Elon

Riyad Mahrez is a man on a mission and has taken to social media to make an appeal to get the thing his heart desires most.

It’s not winning the Champions League semi final second leg tie against Real Madrid on Wednesday, there are more important things at stake… Mahrez’s blue tick.

The Algerian boasts a following of over 3m on Twitter however those who are eagle-eyed will notice that the winger isn’t actually verified.

Musk recently announced the purchase of Twitter – subject to approval

Determined to change that, the 29-year-old has asked the big cheese at Twitter – or soon to be big cheese – Elon Musk. Musk recently purchased Twitter after the company’s board agreed to a $44bn (£34.5bn) takeover offer from the Tesla CEO on April 25.

Musk has since released a statement claiming that Twitter had “tremendous potential” and had plans to make several changes which included implementing an edit button for tweet as well as vowing to get rid of bots from the platform.

Reception to the businessman’s purchase – pending approval – has been mixed with many now sending their requests across to improve their own social media experience.

And unlike his teammates, Mahrez is without a blue tick next to his name and he wants that changed. Asking Musk, he simply said: “Bro @elonmusk give me my blue tick back” followed by three laughing emojis.

Although the Tesla CEO has yet to respond to his request, many people saw the lighter side of his request and took the opportunity to take a jibe at both Mahrez and Man City.

One user said: “Riyad Maherz has same amount of blue ticks(0) as Man City have UCLs(0).”

Another said: “Imagine your winger not having a blue tick.”

Meanwhile a third user said: “He was probably angry because of the chances you missed against Madrid, so he had to take your verification.”

The big question is now… will Elon listen?
