Radamel Falcao hospitalised with concussion after sickening clash with Nice goalkeeper

Just when things were looking up

For the first time in a long while, things were looking up for Radamel Falcao.

Once one of the most feared strikers on the planet, the Colombian failed to hit the heights during his two-year stint in England.

After Manchester United and Chelsea both decided not to make loan moves for the 30-year-old permanent, he’s now back at Monaco, where he’s started to rediscover his scoring touch. Two goals in Monaco’s Champions League qualifiers against Fenerbahce and another one in the league meeting with Rennes, and some people were suggesting that Falcao may be on the cusp of a return to form.

Falcao took his place in Monaco’s side for their top of the table clash away at Nice, but the night didn’t end well for the former Atletico Madrid man.

Not only were Monaco on the wrong end of a Mario Balotelli-inspired 4-0 thumping, Falcao ended the night in hospital.

Chasing down a ball on the edge of the Nice area, Falcao was involved in a nasty collision with goalkeeper, Yoan Cardinale.

Falcao appeared to be caught by the goalkeeper’s elbow, and also seemed to bang his head on the ground a fraction of a second later.

Unsurprisingly, he didn’t reemerge for the second half and was taken to hospital for a series of tests.

Leonardo Jardim, Monaco’s manager, confirmed on Thursday tha Falcao had remained in hospital where he continues to receive treatment for concussion.
